Cathy Jamieson MP, Labour's Shadow Treasury Minister, responding to today's inflation figures, said:
“With inflation stubbornly high and prices still rising faster than wages the cost of living crisis continues.
"But Ministers are making things worse not better for millions on middle and low incomes. On top of soaring energy bills families and pensioners will be hit in April by the Government's granny tax, cuts to working tax credit and child benefit while millionaires get an average £100,000 tax cut.
“This out of touch Government has got its priorities all wrong. Instead of giving a £3 billion tax cut to the very richest George Osborne should be acting to kick-start our economy and help people on modest incomes who are feeling the squeeze.”
