Catherine McKinnell MP, Labour’s Shadow Treasury minister, responding to today’s retail sales figures, said:

“These very disappointing figures underline the weak state of our economy which has now flatlined for over two and half years. David Cameron and George Osborne must take action now to kick-start the economy and support our struggling high streets before more long-term damage is done.

“Labour wants to see a new lower 10p starting rate of tax, which would give a tax cut to millions on middle and modest incomes and boost spending power in the economy. But while we want tax cuts for millions struggling with the rising cost of living, this Conservative-led government is only interested in giving a tax cut to millionaires.”
