Michael Dugher MP, Vice-Chair of the Labour Party, responding to reports on a speech being given by Liam Fox, said:

“First Theresa May, now Liam Fox – Tory MPs seem to be turning this pre-Budget period into a hustings for a future Tory leadership contest rather than focusing on the real challenges facing families up and down the country.

“With the economy flat-lining and the cost of living spiralling, we need a One Nation Government focussed on getting the economy moving again. Instead we have a weak Prime Minister and a Conservative Party showing once again that it is focused on the party interest, not the national interest.

“We need urgent action to grow our economy and help families and businesses feeling the squeeze. Instead, we've got more political positioning from a Tory party that is obsessing with itself, not the country.”
