Ivan Lewis MP, Labour’s Shadow International Development Secretary, in response to Justine Greening’s speech this morning, said:

"Justine Greening’s speech this morning coupled with press briefings over the weekend raise serious concerns about the future of UK development policy.

“This Tory-led Government are committed to promoting a discredited growth model of trickle-down economics which will do nothing to reduce poverty in the developing world.

“David Cameron used to argue that increasing the aid budget was morally right. He is now so weak that he is reduced to pandering to his right wing backbenchers by making false claims that in the future it will predominantly support defence and British business.”
