Kevin Brennan MP, Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister, responding to comments by made by the CBI that the design and technology curriculum is 'out of step' with needs of modern economy, said:

“It’s a huge embarrassment to Michael Gove that business leaders are sounding the alarm about his out-of-date curriculum. He needs to listen to these warnings that his plans will damage our economic future.

“Labour would reform our education system to ensure it offers the skills and knowledge to equip young people for the 21st century.

“The CBI has backed Labour’s plan to ensure all young people study Maths until 18, and the Government needs to address this. Under Michael Gove’s plans only those who fail to get a good GCSE will continue to study Maths, but with Labour all young people will continue to develop their skills in this crucial subject.”
