Jack Dromey MP, Labour’s Shadow Housing Minister, responding to the release of Government figures which show a 3 per cent drop in house building starts over the past 12 months and an 8 per cent drop in home completions (under this Government we have the lowest peacetime completion figures since the 1920s) said:

“The evidence is clear. This Tory-led Government has failed to get Britain building. Their failed housing and economic policies are leaving home ownership out of reach for millions of young people and families.

“Yet despite the housing crisis the Government announced nothing in the Queen's Speech to build the homes we desperately need. Instead, rather than worry themselves over where the next generation of British young people will live, Tory MPs are bickering over Europe.

“Labour would tackle this head on with a house building programme to build thousands of affordable homes, kickstart the economy and create thousands of jobs and apprenticeships.”
