Cathy Jamieson MP, Labour's Shadow Treasury Minister, responding to today's inflation figures, said:
"This fall in the inflation rate is welcome, but the squeeze continues as prices are still rising much faster than wages.
"On top of stagnant wages, rising food prices and soaring energy bills, the average family is £891 worse off this year because of tax and benefit changes since 2010. While millionaires get an average tax cut of £100,000, millions on middle and low incomes are worse off under David Cameron's government.
"We need urgent action to kickstart our economy and help people struggling with the cost of living crisis. That means building thousands more affordable homes, bringing forward infrastructure investment and a lower 10p starting rate of tax. The government needs to realise that a strong and sustained recovery can only be made by the many, not just a few at the top."
