Douglas Alexander MP, Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary, commenting on the Government’s threat to use Britain’s veto at next week’s EU Council on Syria said:
"The Prime Minister has allowed speculation to continue to build about the Government's willingness to veto the EU-wide arms embargo on Syria next week at the EU Council.
"For months Labour has expressed real concern about the risks involved in sending British arms to Syria's opposition forces not least because vital questions about their end-use remain unanswered.
"Last week in Washington the Prime Minister clearly failed to convince President Obama of his case for arming the rebels. Next week in Brussels the UK's use of the veto would simply confirm that the Government had also failed to convince his European partners."
