Jack Dromey MP, Labour's Shadow Housing Minister, responding to hotel chains being paid thousands of pounds a year to accommodate the homeless, said:

“People will be shocked that families that find themselves homeless are increasingly being housed for long periods in budget hotels, crowded into one room. It harms children’s education and it’s a complete waste of taxpayers’ money.

“There could not be a clearer sign that the Government’s failed policies are making the biggest housing crisis in a generation worse not better.

“Rather than wasting money on hotel bills, the Government should be building the affordable homes the country desperately needs, kickstarting the economy and creating thousands of jobs and apprenticeships.”
