Stephen Twigg MP, Labour's Shadow Education Secretary, responding to today's Ofsted report, said:
"This report supports the plans Labour set out this week to increase collaboration between schools. This Government is failing to do what is needed to close the education attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and the rest.
This gap narrowed under Labour and Michael Wilshaw is right to say that our policies, such as London Challenge in which successful schools helped struggling ones, were key to this.
"Labour will ensure all schools work together to raise standards for every child. We know this is what works but Michael Gove is ignoring the evidence and encouraging schools to go it alone - this is bad for standards and means too many children are left behind."
