Kevin Brennan MP, Labour’s Shadow Schools Minister, responding to Ofsted inspections of Free Schools, said:
“Michael Gove’s claims about free schools demonstrates his total complacency about standards. The evidence suggests that his free schools are not doing as well as existing schools – not a single secondary free school is rated as outstanding, yet Michael Gove praises them. David Cameron and Michael Gove are threatening school standards by setting up schools that can employ unqualified teachers.
“Labour would ensure there is local oversight of free schools and that action is taken on underperforming schools. There should be no excuse for underperformance in any school – but Michael Gove has no plan to turn around free schools that aren’t doing well enough.”
