Caroline Flint MP, Labour's Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commenting on reports that thousands of consumers will be moved to a more expensive energy deal as a result of the Government's tariff reforms, said:

"This is yet more evidence that David Cameron's cack-handed reforms to energy tariffs have completely backfired. He promised to force the energy companies to put everyone on the cheapest tariffs - but now it looks like thousands of people will be paying more than they were before. Coming just days after revelations that the energy giants have enjoyed a £3.3 billion windfall on David Cameron's watch, the news that people will see their bills rise even further will be infuriating for hard-pressed consumers.

"Instead of tinkering with tariffs and telling people to shop around, David Cameron should stand up to the energy companies and get behind Labour's plans to put an end to rip-off bills."
