Yvette Cooper MP, Labour's Shadow Home Secretary, said in response to a Police Federation's survey of rank and file police officers today which found 85% believe cutting police numbers will have a detrimental effect on crime levels:

"This shows the depth of alarm in the police about the impact on crime of the Tory-led Government's 20 per cent cuts. These officers are on the frontline of the fight against crime and they know the damage Theresa May and David Cameron are doing. Cutting over 12,500 officers and cutting police powers at the same time is taking huge risks, and it will be local communities who pay the price."
