Iain Wright MP, Labour's Shadow Minister for Competitiveness and Enterprise, commenting on the news that the Thamesteel plant in Kent has gone into administration, said:

"This development will be extremely worrying for the 400 workers at the plant and highlights the reality of the Tory-led Government's failing economic strategy which has choked off economic growth, hit manufacturing and led to the highest unemployment in 18 years.

"Coupled with yesterday's news from the Coryton oil refinery and today's deeply worrying GDP figures, it is time for this out of touch Government to change course and get a credible plan for jobs and growth.”
